Cute Valentine's heart mobile
So the first activity of on our Valentine's day countdown was to do a special Valentines craft...but which special Valentines craft? that was the question. So I gathered my 4 year old daughter and my 2½ year old son around the computer in search for a craft they might like to do.. they saw a very pretty heart mobile and we decided to make our own version of it! So I carved 2 heart-shape stamps out of a potato and made each of them a heart-shape stamp out of an empty toilet paper roll, took some red (washable) paint and set them off to decorate a white sheet of paper. When they were happy about their paint work, I then cutted some hearts out of their art work, they then punched little holes in their hearts (that was my son's favorite part of the activity, some of his paper hearts did not survive the puncher!) I used some pipe cleaners to do a heart shape and I then tied their hearts to it with some red wool, and that's about it! They were both very proud and happy of the result and they wanted to hang their beautiful craft over their little baby brother's crib, which was a very good loving idea!
You know those type of days when you just hink in your head :" Thank God it's over!" Well this is the type of day I had today...I got pucked on, pooped on, I had a blueberry smoothy splashed ALL over the kitchen, a big sploush all the way to the ceilling, dripping on my cupboard doors, staining my favorite shirt and skirt...that type of day you know...and to top it all I had a stupid fight with the daddy...
Well Thank God it's over, every one sleeping now, the house is delightfully quiet and I just ate a tasty biscooti...feeling a little better now!
Wishing every one a good night...

Valentine's day countdown calendar
This year I decided to introduce a new tradition in our family, a Valentine's day countdown, because only one day to celebrate love is just not enough! Since I am very busy with my little 2 month old baby, and my 2 other little ones, I didn't do anything fancy, I just took an old empty frame, tied some ribbons and cutted 14 hearts which I numberded from 1 to 14 and hanged the hearts on the ribbon with some paper clips, very easy! But if you'd like something more fancy, there is some very good and beautiful ideas I've came accross on the web (my favorite was this one from Secrets of a super mommy) But what's important is not what your countdown calendar looks like, it's what you write behing every hearts. You could decide to write a love note that you could read to your family every morning or, like me, you could write a special activity to do about Valentine's day.
If you want some ideas of what to include in your countdown, here's the list of what's in mine:
1- make a Valentines day craft
2-watch some love movies together eating a special treat
3-bake some heart shape cookies
4-do a Valentines day photo shoot to have some cute pictures of the kids to send to grand-maman et grand-papa
5-make some Valentines card for the people we love
6-make a Valentine scrapbook page with the picture from our photo shoot
7-drink some hot chocolate together around the table and compliment each other
8-make another Valentines day craft to decorate the house
9-prepare a care package for someone we love and go mail it
10-make some cinnamon dough hearts
11-phone everyone we love to tell them how much we care for them, and sing them a love song all the family together
12-play the kindness game (I'll explain it in another post)
13-list all of our own special quality and do a self portrait showing these quality
14- bake a Valentine cake and have a special Valentine dinner together
So we started the countdown yesterday and the children were very happy! This morning the first thing they wanted to do was to look behind the heart number 2 to know what was going to be the special activity for today!
Happy febuary everyone! Let this month be the month of love! ;)
